Yaya Toure named African Footballer of the Year

Yaya Toure has been named African Footballer of the Year.
 
Toure edged out Chelsea's Nigerian international John Obi Mikel and former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba to win the award for the third year running.

The 30-year-old joins Abedi Pele and Samuel Eto'o in winning the honour on three occasions.

Toure has been in superb form for club and country over the last 12 months and was included on the 23-man shortlist for FIFA's World Player of the Year.

The former Barcelona man admitted he was proud to win the prize for a third time.

"I am very proud and very happy to receive this award, but would also like to congratulate my brothers, John Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba," noted Toure.
