Odinga keeps word, rewards AFC Leopards’ Sh1 million

Odinga donated the amount to Ingwe for finishing second after rewarding champions Gor Mahia with a similar amount for winning 2013 trophy

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga kept his promise by rewarding AFC Leopards’ Sh1 million for finishing second in the just concluded Kenya Premier League.

Odinga had vowed to donate the amount to Ingwe if they finished second in the league after rewarding champions Gor Mahia with a similar amount for winning 2013 trophy.

Odinga congratulated AFC Leopards’ for going on to win GOtv Shield trophy after beating their rivals in the final. “You deserve to celebrate. It was your year and hopefully next season you will perform better,” Odinga told the players during a luncheon held in a Nairobi Hotel.

He urged players in Kenyan league to follow in the footsteps of midfielder Victor Wanyama, who turns out for English Premier League side Southampton.

“A few years ago we tried to push for Macdonald Mariga the elder brother to Victor to join the English Premier League. It was not possible back then because of our position in Fifa rankings. But with Wanyama there and I am being told Mariga will join him soon, it is time many more Kenyans will follow suite.”
