MDC ambassadors face an uncertain future after their four-year contracts expired last week.
The Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDC-T contributed four ambassadors while the Welshman Ncube-led MDC weighed in with one.
President Robert Mugabe made the appointments in line with a coalition agreement with his MDC rivals clinched in 2008.
Joey Bimha, the Foreign Affairs secretary, has confirmed that all 47
ambassadors face a recall within days, and it is likely that Mugabe -
swept back into power by a landslide on July 31 - will not be
re-appointing the MDC ambassadors.
"As it stands, they signed contracts to serve for four years in 2009, but these contracts have now lapsed," Bimha said.
"We are now waiting to see what the President decides to do because
it is his prerogative to either appoint or recall the ambassadors. He
may decide to give new contracts to the ambassadors or replace some of
them with new envoys."
The MDC-T seconded scandal-hit Jacqueline Zwambila to be the
ambassador to Australia; Tsvangirai's cousin Hebson Makuvise was sent to
Germany; Mabel Ngulani was made ambassador to Nigeria and Hilda Mafudze
was deployed in Sudan.
The Ncube-led MDC's Trudy Stevenson was stationed in Senegal.
Bimha said he expects President Robert Mugabe to reshuffle the
ambassador pack shortly after he names his Cabinet, which is expected
this week.
