WAYNE ROONEY |
WAYNE ROONEY is ready to snub Arsenal and leave Manchester United for Chelsea
this summer.
Rooney
will leave United unless new manager David Moyes backtracks on predecessor Sir
Alex Ferguson's claim that the striker handed in a transfer request. If the
England international does leave Old Trafford he will choose Chelsea
ahead of Arsenal.
The striker is set to leave Old
Trafford unless new manager David Moyes refutes Sir Alex Ferguson’s claim that
he handed in a transfer request last season.
And Rooney
has let it be known to Chelsea
through intermediaries that he wants to come to Stamford Bridge to work under
Jose Mourinho next season if no solution can be found to his situation at
United.
Rooney,
who is also being courted by Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, has told friends
he wants to stay in England – and that if he has to leave United, Chelsea
are his first option.
Chelsea
are aware of Rooney’s
wishes, but he is not top of the list of strikers they are aiming to sign this
summer, with Napoli’s Edinson Cavani the man they really want.
Rooney,
due for clear-the-air talks with Moyes next week, fears that if United were
forced into a sale they would prefer him to go abroad and, if not, to Arsenal
rather than Chelsea.
Arsenal’s second-largest shareholder Alisher Usmanov this week called for
the club to sign Rooney,
but Blues boss Mourinho is believed to be happy to work with the forward.
Rooney
is still fuming that Ferguson publicly stated last season that the striker had
handed in a transfer request, which he vehemently denies.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s
young Belgian Kevin De Bruyne has spoken to Mourinho and wants to stay at the
Blues, who yesterday announced a new 10-year deal with Adidas worth
£293million.
