Tanzania and Zambia snared a point each after playing out a 1-all stalemate in their first Group B match of this year’s GoTv Cecafa
Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya. Zambia took the lead four minutes from
recess after Ronald Kampamba headed home Felix Katongo’s cross from the
left.
But Tanzania leveled
matters through Said Morad’s efforts 15 minutes into the second period.
Both sides looked to hold onto possession but often, they were let down
due to the soggy outfield in Machakos. In front of a fair crowd, both
sides garnered a point each and are two behind group leaders Burundi who had earlier beaten Somalia 2-0 in the first tie.
But it may not have been a
satisfactory result for the 2012 Africa champions Zambia. The southern
African side now remain winless in nine games. The Patrice Beaumalle
tutored side heir last win to August 3 when they beat Botswana 2-0 in a
2014 CHAN first round, return leg game in Ndola. Since then, they have
picked up two draws before launching on a five-game losing run against
Zimbabwe, Ghana, Brazil, Jordan and Egypt.
Before today’s draw, the last three losses have been even more delicate for the new French coach Beaumelle who has not had the best of starts since replacing his predecessor and mentor Herve Renard in October. Zambia face Burundi in their penultimate Group B match on December 1 before closing their preliminary round fixtures against Somalia four days later.
