Tears flow as bodies of ‘Darfur 7’ arrive in Dar

Dar es Salaam. A huge cloud of gloom hung over the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) air wing in Dar es Salaam yesterday, as the plane carrying the bodies of seven soldiers who were killed while on a peace keeping mission in Sudan’s Darfur region last week touched down.
Tears flowed freely amongst some of those who had assembled at the facility, who included relatives of the deceased. The anguished mourners were hard-pressed to absorb the shock of compatriots engaged in the noble mission having their lives cruelly terminated by a bunch of ruthless militias.
The special airplane carrying the bodies of the slain TPDF cadres touched down at around 4:30pm, and, upon the seven flag-draped caskets being carried solemnly by TPDF officers to a military vehicle for transportation to Lugalo Hospital, the assembly was struck by a huge pang of emotional pain.
The party included Vice president Dr Mohammed Gharib, Second Zanzibar Vice President, Seif Ali Iddi, Minister for Defence Shamsi Vuai Nahodha, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Davis Mwamnyange, The First Lady Mama Salma Kikwete, and Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Said Meck Sadik.
TPDF Acting spokesperson Major Joseph Masanja said the bodies will be preserved at the military hospital until tomorrow when they will be relocated to TPDF headquarers at panga headquarters where friends and relatives will pay their last respects.
