NAIROBI, KENYA: Talks between Kenya National Union of Teachers ( KNUT) and the government in a bid to end teachers’ strike is currently on.
However the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has been locked out of the meeting on Knut’s request.
Labour Cabinet Minister Kazungu Kambi and Principal Secretary Ali Ismail are in attendance.
The
two sides walked out of the meeting at around 1 am Wednesday with Knut
national chairman Wilson Sossion saying they have not agreed on anything
yet and that the strike was still on.
Kambi however said the talks are not over as the two teams have walked out ‘to consult’.
Knut is yet to call off the strike despite Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers ( KUPPET) calling off theirs to allow negotiations with the Government.
On Tuesday, Knut officials said they will not return to work despite an order by the Industrial Court.
